My Images from photoshoot

For my music magazine i purposely took more images than when i had my school magazine photoshoot becuase i learnt that having a variety of poses and shots results in a better final image; this time i could choose the images i wanted to use from the same model ( i took about 6/7 shots for each model; i uploaded the ones that i will be using and some of the ones i wont.

Image Logo for magazine

I want to have a image, maybe a cartoon image of a pair of headphones, a turntable or syntheziser lights.

I will make he logo on photoshop to ensure that u get a professional and stylish look.
I want something to attract and appeal to my music audience (dance culture). The logo will act as a trademark of the magazine institution, and will attract the magazines target audience.

Plan for Photoshoot

I have booked my photoshoot for tuesday, 8th of December. I will have to take some of my freinds out of dinner time in order to take the photos and get the models i want for the magazine.

Other effects i could consider...

Photoshoot

I was going to start organising a photoshoot, however, i found out i could be going to a professional theatre to take my pictures. I will start asking my models what kind of clothes they could wear and what props they have. Also, i specifically asked for bright clothes to attract the Dance culture, also i asked fot clothes that would be relevant to the genre and housestyle of the magazine (bright colours).

Monday 23 November 2009

This is the image before and after, i added rain and made the woman black/white to make the umbrella stand out. The vibrant orange gives a fun and energetic sense to the image.

I might do something similar to this for the main image of the front cover, however when i edit and apply effects to the image i will take more time and be sure to get a professional looking image to appeal to my target audience. The audiences i want to appeal to with a similar image to this are the hedonists and aspirers, also i want to target audiences that are linked with the Dance Music culture.

Slide: effects for the front cover central image

This is a slide showing what sort of effects i could add to the front cover image, when i take my photos this week some time.

What i could do for the double page article image

this was the final image i got after i edited it and i added the energy blasts. I could have made it better by following a online tutorial, however i wanted to see what i could achieve on my own. For my double page article image i could do something like this, but maybe have the background a bit more colourful.

Double page article Image Experiments Screenshots

This was a image of me that i tool today, i though that i should start experimenting with different effects on photoshop so my images on the magazine are outstanding and look professionaly edited.

Moreover, this is what io might do for my double page article image; take a medium shot of a boy and ask the model to pose with his hands open and up high so i can add these amazing effects afterwards.

Flatplan , more detailed with new ideas

Here is my new ideas for my double page article. In want the articles to show a interview with a famous star.

In the articles, i will ask questions and have answers from the star.
Also the image idea is to have a boy standing and i can edit the image in photoshop and add sparks, beams or energy blasts.

Morover, above the article text i want the mastheads to have the titles, 'Dinaka Guetta interview' because my model's name is Dinaka. He also has a blog, www.flash-creator.blogspot.com

Here also is my new front cover, it is similar to the old one because i still havent thought of the text to put in, i will type up and think of new text ideas for the front cover in the next few days.

What is more, is the front cover's image hopefull will be of a girl (possible models could be emma, paige or natalie), i want the model to hold a umbrella and then in photoshop i can cut the image out and add it to a rainy background that i will make and then change the colours of the umbrella; to reds, blues, greens, yellows etc, to show the dance lifestyle (fun and energetic).

The new contents page has the text i want, and the page 3-4 has the text about the 'Dinaka Guetta interview' (i will have the interview on the double page article). Also i have decided only to have 3 image for the contents because i can choose the best shots i take of different models and only have 3 that are edited; choose the best ones.

The image of the 'contents' on lined paper was my first ideas of the contents page, as you can see there is a alot of scribbiling because thinking is a messy process! :D

This is all the main ideas for the
magazine, i will take my photos hopefully next week and then upload them and start the editing. I will show all the editing and the screenshots of the construction of the magazine. In each post i will state what it is that i was trying to achieve (e.g the look, the colours etc) also i will show how i changed the look of the images and why.

I will be editing my photos in Photoshop and then putting them into my magazine; the magazine will be produced on Adobe Indesign.

Slogan and Magazine Title Ideas

These are the slogan and magazine title ideas.

For each of them i asked 15 people and i recorded the results on the side in a tally, for the slogan the best one was 'RAVE... all night long!' and for the masthead it was 'RAVE'.

Logo Process

This magazine was where i got my layout ideas from, although it being a R&B and Hip-hip magazine i only used ideas from the layout to apply to my Dance music magazine.

The magazine contained a good front cover, a excellent quality image and attractive colours that would also appeal to audiences that are associated with the Dance culture; colours like the bright blues, yellows, pinks and oranges (represent fun, happiness and they're positive, may link into the fun lifestyle of the Dance culture).

The contents page gave a idea to have my text on one side and the pictures on the other, however i never wanted the small caption box to right of the images.

The front cover wasn't exactly how i wanted it, i wanted more text on the right hand side of it, to show how much information and exciting features the magazine contains.

The double page article also wasn't exactly the way i wanted mine, i want the image to slightly go over to the right page.

These are pictures of my double page article layout and designs.
I have included the 'IMAGE' page which will contain a large image taking up nearly the whole page, i will continue the border from the contents page and i will keep the same themes, for instance the colours and fonts.

Ive decided to have one page with mostly text and the other with a large image, however i might have some of the image going over to the page with the text to show the two pages are linked to each other.

Also, the logo i will be making will go on the bottom right corner of the second page to inform the audiences that this magazine is a big institution and is professional.

Here is my draft for my my contents page. When i was drawing the text i decided that i wanted a border so it ran over the masthead, the text will have to be smaller when i make it. Also, the images on the right may also have a border or a outside glow. Moreover, on the contents i sill have similar backgrounds to the double page article to keep the house style the same and to the same effect and look of the magazine., I will also have a bottom strip for the contents, i will used similar colours to the front cover and the double page article to keep the same house style and use colours of the Dance culture to target audiences associated with the Dance culture.

Flatplan

1

Here is my first draft design of my front cover. I will be having a large main image in the centre, the main text on the left third (convention of magazines is to have main text and some image on the left third because in a store you would only see the left third and it would have to attract and appeal to the customers. I also have stated in red pen that i will be using a bottom strip, i will also have the bottom strip on the contents and double page article to keep the same house style and to keep the same general look of the magazine.I still need to make a logo, think of a slogan, what text to put in and the colours (i haven't decided whether to use pink but i am certain to use blue).

Main Magazine Task:

The first part of the main task was to research music tribes, music institutions, magazine institutions and to do audience research for my music magazine.

Now, the second part is the construction of my music magazine, to slowly demonstrate how i came up with ideas for my magazine, show drawings and designs of magazine ideas and to show the construction of magazine (screenshots, drawings, photos etc). My music magazine will contain a front cover, single page contents and a double page article.

Audience Research

From the questionaire results i decided that i will be targeting audiences assiociated with the Dance culture.

Moreover, i will be targeting a youth market, ages from 13 to 18; the reason for this is the content, images and features will target and appeal to young ages and my questionare showed that most of my respondents were between 13 and 18.
In addition to please the niche market i will be using good quality images, a reasonable price and i will be targeting specific audience demographic.

My magazine will mainly target the 'aspirers' and 'hedonists', because being a dance magazine that will include the 'dancing' and 'carefree' lifestyle; people who live for the moment.

Researching Magazine Institutions

The BBC

The BBC uses all types of media to appeal to different audiences and to make music popular.

It mainly uses the television programme Top Of The Pops. Top of the Pops was used by the BBC to raise awareness of different types of music and to widen the audience they used TOTP (Top of the Pops) in other media forms, such as the magazine, the website and the Cd's.

The television show was the most successful, it used to broadcast each Thursday, each weekly programme consisted of a run down of that weeks charts and also it had the best selling music of that week played and performed by the specific artist. It was a show where all famous artists came together to put on a show and it was the one of the only shows at that time in 1960's (when it was first broad casted) where all artists performances on one show was broad casted to the nation.

Moreover, the BBC extended their music advertising in magazine, where each act that performed on the show that week would give a interview and their pictures would be used for the front cover's central image. Moreover, TOTP's mainly targeted a young audience, because if the 'pop' music they played.

Also the website had videos and pictures of the shows events and it had interactive features that audiences could use, for instance the TOTP wallpapers , screen savers and games.

Moreover, the Cd's took the advertising to whole new level, the target audiences could play back the most popular TOTP songs in their cars, Cd players and hi-fi's. The use of magazines, Cd's and websites was mainly used for widening the target audience and raising awareness of popular acts, what is more is the BBC used them to remind people that the show is coming on and they should watch it because it links into the magazine, website and Cd's.

Magazine example, show the stars of the show(images). Colours target a young female audience, also the text implies the pop genre the use of words 'pop', 'love' and 'stars'.

I used a image to show a typical performance on TOTPs, the famous and successful girl band Girls Aloud, perform on the christmas special to promote their new single.

I used a image to show the website and how it has the daily news of TOTP which has new music videos, performance images and new gossip about stars.

Another image i used is the old logo for TOTPs and it is example of one of the albums.

Music Institutions

I will now begin to research big music institutions that sell and advertise music.

Moreover, i am researching specific music institutions to see which ones would distribute and sell my magazine.

Plastic Pop Animation

This animation i made represents the significant part TV Reality shows play in the 'plastic pop' industry. Judges would judge each performance a act performs, then each night a act leaves the competition until they are left with three finalists. In the last show they are joined by famous acts in order for them to have the most votes possible, the winning act is given a million pound record deal and a chance to break into the music industry. 2008 winner Alexandra Burke won the show and released ''Hallelujah'' and then ''Bad Boys'' which were both number ones.

Moreover, TV Reality shows are shown at a specific times (Prime Time) and days to get maximum viewers and votes; they're usually shown between 7pm and 10pm and on Saturdays and Sundays;the time when people sit down to watch TV, come back from work and are with family (watching TV) and the days when people tend to sleep at later times.

Researching the Plastic Pop Industry

The plastic pop industry began in the 1950's with songs like "since i met you baby" Hunter and it still exists now in the 21st century with acts like The Saturdays.
The words 'Plastic' and 'Pop' explain the whole idea of manufactued industry that produce 'one hit wonders'(having one popular song, one song that entered the charts.
Reality TV played a significant part in the industry. It started with progammes like Pop Idol and Pop Stars the Rivals. People say that the whole idea of the 'plastic' pop industry has ruined the pop music genre and has resulted in pop becoming less popular. Whereas, other people argue that the industry has helped in maintaining the popularity of the pop genre. Pop Idol produced the one hit wonder "HearSay" which had two hits 'pure and simple' and 'the way to your love', the band then split up after a year, this short-lived band are similar to other tv reality 'one hit wonders' like Michelle McManus (pop idol), Leon Jackson(x factor), Gareth Gates(pop idol) and Will Young(pop idol). On the other hand, there has been success with the tv plastic pop industry with the likes of Girls aloud, Leona Lewis and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole who have showed that reality tv have made pop more popular and have revived the genre.
